Program Structure & Registration
How are IB classes identified?
Classes are clearly labeled as IB and MYP (Middle Years Programme) and are integrated across six subject areas.
Is there a cost to participate in the IB program?
No, there is no additional cost to participate in the 9-10 MYP at Loveland High School. The 11-12 DP has minimal cost for exam fees ( optional).
Do MYP students automatically move to the Diploma Programme (DP)?
No, students need to opt into the program. We offer several pathways to serve individual student needs.
When does the full Diploma Programme (DP) start?
The DP begins in the first semester of 11th grade. This is a two-year program and must be started at the beginning of junior year.
Do I need to complete special registration forms for incoming freshmen?
No additional forms are required. Students are automatically integrated into the MYP when they enroll in courses at LHS.
Academic Information
What's the difference between AP and IB?
- Teaching Methodology: IB offers more in-depth learning, while AP covers more content (breadth over depth)
- Assessment Style: IB uses coursework and portfolio-style assessment, while AP primarily depends on one final exam
- Learning Approach: IB is very student-centered and inquiry-based
Is the IB program a cohort model?
Yes, students learn together throughout the program, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
Do IB students complete a capstone project?
Yes, each programme includes a capstone component. In the MYP, students complete a personal project.
Diplomas & Credit Recognition
What recognition do students receive for completing the program?
- Individual courses receive IB certificates
- Full diploma students receive both their LHS diploma and the IB diploma
- The State of Colorado and colleges throughout the US offer considerable credit for IB Diplomas and Certificates
